How to get prepared for 9th grade guys lacrosse season?

by on December 28, 2010

I’m in eighth grade football right now (the seasons over) but some of my friends say that lacrosse is a lot more fun and active then football… so i signed up for it.

my question is: What can i do from february until school gets back after summer to have an edge on everyone else physically and good at hadling the stick?

here lacrosse is in the spring, many of the football players play lacrosse. They start training now by mostly running, you need to get your endurance up because it’s such an active game. Also, there are indoor facilities and leagues where you can play year round

if u have never played then you have to learn how to catch pass and cradle..running is also really important…i have tryouts for lacrosse next month and im in ninth grade nd i run two miles a day.

Lots of running will definitely help
Also if you have a wall near your house you need to get your stick skills down throw both lefty and righty to throw naturally
Quick feet are also very important be able to sidestep, back peddle, and change directions quickly
Ground balls are also important

if you’ve never played before,it can be tough to start out in high school. When you buy a stick, first…if you can’t order one from Lacrosse.com (they are pricey but worth it) buy one from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Along with all the necessary equipment.
Next, and this is the most important part. The wall is going to be your best friend for the rest of your lacrosse career. Any wall, concrete, brick, etc. Just play pass and catch with it till you’re comfortable and you have the motions down. Use it for hours every day and you’ll start to use your left hand (coaches LOVE players who can use both hands), incorporate cradling and doding. But the only way to have the upper hand skill wise, is to pass and catch day in and day out with that wall. When you’re comfortable with your stick and your basics, find a lax goal either at the school or someones house and start learning how to shoot. But ALWAYS go back to the wall. I still use it every day.
