I just got a new lacrosse stick for christmas, STX Proton+ with a Vanadium shaft, it has a stiff mesh pocket now…I was wondering, how do I break in the pocket quickly, without making it illegal?

This is my first year trying out for MODIFIED GIRLS lacrosse. Obviously, I don’t have any experience whatsoever. What supplies should I buy (besides a stick 
)? Tryouts are held in April and every year about 40 girls try out and only 12-24 get picked. What should I do to train before try outs? Thanks.
